Tools of the trade - top mic

Say hello to my Rode VideoMicPro+!
This microphone has been a handy part of my kit for a while now, but I’m relying on it more and more as a way to practice social distancing on a shoot. One of its best features is that it while recording my preferred volume on one track, it’s simultaneously recording a lower level on the other – so blow outs are basically a thing of the past, phew!
I also appreciate how sturdy the shockmount is for shooting handheld, and the fact that it automatically turns off and on with the camera is an absolutely brilliant feature.
And if that’s not all enough, Rode is an Australian owned company!
